With another A-list celebrity at the center of it, the collaboration between Apple Original Pictures and Skydance Media is strengthening its already robust slate. According to sources, Apple has acquired The Family Plan, an action-comedy film from Skydance starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Simon Cellan Jones.

Following their cooperation on the upcoming Arthur the King, Mark Wahlberg and Jones will reconvene for the movie. The Family Plan, a novel by David Coggeshall, is the tale of a suburban father who is forced to flee with his family when his past catches up with him. Along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg of Municipal Pictures will produce.

The Family Plan is Mark Wahlberg’s latest project, announced in late 2020. It’s a comedy-drama hybrid that revolves around Mark and his wife as they move their blended family of seven kids to a new city, with Mark’s wife getting a job at an ad agency while Mark takes care of the kids and home. The move forces the couple to do some soul-searching as they navigate their new lives with their extended family. Mark Wahlberg has described the movie as “an exciting look into the heart of modern-day family life – both its challenges and rewards.”

The idea for The Family Plan came from Mark Wahlberg, who developed it with former writing partner Mike Markowitz. Mark has said that this movie was inspired by his own life as a father of four kids, and he wanted to explore how close-knit families with multiple generations can come together in times of crisis. The Family Plan also marks Mark’s first return to the comedy genre since Ted 2 back in 2015.

As for casting, Mark Wahlberg revealed that he would be playing the lead male role, though no other crew members have been announced thus far. Mark is expected to take on a producer role as well. In addition, David O’Russell is set to direct The Family Plan from a script written by Mark Wahlberg and Mike Markowitz.

The Family Plan promises to be an uplifting story about family values and resilience. Mark Wahlberg said the report “emphasizes the importance of family, no matter how crazy life can get.” It’s expected to be released sometime in 2021. Fans are looking forward to Mark Wahlberg’s return to comedy and a nuanced look into contemporary family life.
